Career Stand Ideas & Activations
Easy Engagement Ideas:
- Lego car building (great conversation starter while you chat)
- Display real tools & equipment
- Share apprentice stories and career journeys
- Nuts & Bolts jar guessing competition
Interactive Activities:
- Guess the tool: Cover a tool and have students guess what it is and what it is used for. Small prize for correct answer.
Tools and Equipment Display Ideas
Alternator or Starter Motor (non-operational): Allow students to explore and disassemble basic components, then reassemble them to gain an understanding of how the parts work together.
Dead Car Battery: Demonstrate battery terminals, warning labels, and key safety features. Students can identify the positive and negative terminals while learning basic battery safety.
Paint Charts and Colour Matching: Showcase automotive paint samples and discuss colour matching, finishes, and repair processes used in the industry.
Panel Repair Demonstration: Demonstrate how dents can be carefully tapped out of a panel and explain the basics of panel beating and vehicle repairs.
Brake Pads and Rotors: Let students compare worn and new brake components while discussing braking systems, vehicle performance, and road safety.
Nuts and Bolts Challenge: Create an interactive activity where students match the correct nuts and bolts. This can also be turned into a fun timed competition.
Tool Identification Activity: Display a range of common automotive tools such as spanners, sockets, and screwdrivers. Students can test their knowledge through a quiz or matching game.
Non-Operational Engine Components:
Provide students with the opportunity to handle different engine parts and guess their purpose and function within a vehicle. Examples include:
- Pistons
- Valves
- Gaskets
